About Us

Dr. Patangrao Kadam started Poona College of Pharmacy in 1981. It is the Pioneer College of Pharmacy in University of Pune and it was started when there was no Pharmacy College in this area. This grant-in-aid college in a span of 22 years has grown into an institute which provides B.Pharm., M.Pharm. in 5 specialization and Ph.D. programmes in pharmaceutical sciences. It is recognized by all the apex bodies controlling education in India i.e. Pharmacy Council of India, All India Council for Technical Education and University Grants Commission. The National Board of Accreditation of AICTE has awarded 'A' Grade to this college in recognition of its excellent infrastructure, faculty, Research and Collaborations with Pharmaceutical Industries. It is the only Pharmacy College in University of Pune and in this region which got itself accredited.

Since July, 2000, this college has become a constituent college of the Bharati Vidyapeeth University. This change has given full academic autonomy to the college. One of the biggest drawbacks of the conventional Universities is the time frame required for restructuring of syllabi. The entire process, from calling of Board of Studies meeting, to final passing of the syllabi by Academic Council may require upto 12 months. However since this college is a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, we can introduce a new programme within 3 months despite following the same procedure as any other University .

This kind of academic freedom has geared up us to introduce new courses/concepts. To mention one of them is the concept of an elective at the final year B.Pharm. and electives for M.Pharm. which are decided on the basis of the current trends, need of pharmaceutical industry and society.

College of PharmacyAs per the AICTE norms, Pharmacy College is required to have 1.0 hectares of open ground and a building admeasuring 4000.0 sq.mts. The parent Trust, Bharati Vidyapeeth has provided 2.5 hectares of open ground to the college in 1981, college building consisting of the academic and administrative blocks admeasuring 5500.0 sqmts. was constructed. The total civil cost of building was Rs.1 crore. The entire building is planned as per the requirements of the University, Pharmacy Council of India and All India Council for Technical Education. In addition to these administrative and academic blocks, the college has excellent Library facility, well-equipped laboratories, spacious separate hostels with all necessary amenities for Boys and Girls. Besides these, it has also Guest House facility, which is being used by examiners, visiting faculty and parents. The present building was designed and built keeping in mind the future requirements for developmental activities.

The students in our B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. are admitted through an All India Entrance Examination. This provides us with students of high academic standards. The students on joining the course are continuously assessed throughout the year by conducting 3 sessional examinations with 20 % weightage in the final examination. This continuous monitoring helps us to identify weaker students so that teachers can give additional attention on them. We also conduct remedial courses in Mathematics and Biology for those students who had not opted either of these subjects at their XII standard.
The asset of this college is the sincere, dedicated , student caring qualified faculty. Many professionals from the industries are invited to deliver guest lectures. Care has been taken to include experts from industries in the Board of studies so that the syllabus and curricula are designed to meet the requirements of the industry.

The faculty of the college is a congregation of scholars with a laudable track record as teachers, trainers and researchers. Most of them are Ph.D. holders and have acclaimed publications to their credit.

The library of the college needs a special mention. It has a huge collection of classics and recent books on Pharmaceutical Sciences. Equipped with internet facility and around 1000 journals are available in this library.

The Placement track record of this college is exceptionally good. A large number of multinational companies as well as Indian Pharmaceutical companies regularly visit this campus to recruit the students as their employees.
